The hobbit_smut Community is no longer an active community. However, it remains as an archive of all the stories written over its lifetime. Feel free to come on in and explore. All the challenge summaries listing the stories and providing easy access to them are both linked (see under "Links to Each Challenge") and tagged with the tag "challenges" to be easy for you to find.
If you read and enjoy, no matter when, please DO leave a comment. The authors ARE, for the most part, still around and active in the fandom and would appreciate hearing from you!
If you are exploring how a community like this is set up and run, all those posts are available for your review.
If you have any other questions, feel free to contact the caretaker mod -- elanorgardner at elanor.gardner@verizon.net or comment below.
With the agreement of the member writers of the Hobbit Smut Fan Fiction Challenge Community, the moderators have decided to archive the entirety of hobbit_smut using the LJArchive utility and to provide the archive, as a little Yule gift, to all of you. The Hobbit Smut archive includes all the challenge stories and comments posted in the community from the very beginning in an easily accessible and searchable format.
In order to read or search the Hobbit Smut archive, you will need to download and install the LJArchive tool here. It is very easy, very quick, and works well to archive both individual and community LJs. (Also an excellent tool for backing up your LJ no matter what your reason.) Excellent instructions for downloading, installing and using LJArchive are here. The hardest thing about it is finding the right file to download on the LJArchive site, but elke_tanzer covers it in her post.
The archive is almost 10 Mg, so come equipped with bandwidth and PLEASE Right Click/Save Target As . . ONLY!!
(We also have a PDF file created by LJ Book available. Not quite as user friendly or pretty or easy to search and navigate as the LJArchive version, but if you prefer PDF, contact the mod. It is 15 Mg though!)
Thank you again for your interest and your support! Have a wonderful holiday season!
ETA: As the lovely mews1945 points out, you cannot use LJArchive unless you have Microsoft.NET Framework installed. Easy to fix if you don't. Just go here and install it for free.

Back in December of 2003, at the Gathering of the Fellowship in Toronto, an idea was born that came to fruition, after much work and many emails and IM messages and phone calls, with the birth of a challenge community called hobbit_smut -- a place where writers and readers who adore our beloved hobbits and love to see them in romantic, exciting and sexy stories could come together and enjoy those stories. We threw down the challenge to some very talented authors who took it up willingly and followed us down that road on our adventure, and many readers came along for the joyous journey.
Well, dear friends, now, after 22 challenges and 269 stories, comes the time for this particular Fellowship to part and go our various ways. The road will go ever on and on, but it is time for hobbit_smut to depart gracefully through that next secret gate and allow our lovely member authors and readers to continue on their various journeys.
The stories written by hobbit_smut's wonderful authors will remain archived in the community as a testimony to their talent and the community. And we know those authors who "cannot but write" will continue to produce exciting, romantic and sexy stories whether we are here or not. But the most important element, besides the author's own need to create those stories, is the need for the readers who enjoy them to take the time to comment and let those authors know that you are there and you are reading and you do appreciate their efforts. Now more than ever, as there are fewer and fewer of us remaining in the fandom and all manner of "real life" issues rearing their ugly heads to steal time and energy, we must be even more supportive of each other in our efforts to keep telling the stories that must be told.
This particular mod offers very special thanks to all those who played an instrumental role in the community through it's lifetime -- conniemarie, shadowfax8, willow_wode, teasel, and many special kisses and snogs to abby_normal (she knows why). But most especially to all of our member authors, who have made hobbit_smut one of the best places to come for terrific hobbit fanfic. They are fabulously talented and generous ladies who have offered up their hearts to the community and kept us all entertained for many, many months. And to all of you, our readers, thank you for your big-hearted support of these authors and for your willing participation in the community.
So, the road goes ever on. Farewell, dearest of friends and fellows! Go in peace!
The hobbit_smut"Ash Nazg" Challenge is complete at last and our wonderful authors have proven themselves worthy of the challenge as they responded to the One Ring in their own unique ways.
For this very special challenge, our authors were asked to write a story in which one of the characters in The Lord of the Rings claims the One Ring for his, or her, own and to show us what happens as a result. And, since this ishobbit_smut, at least one of our beloved hobbits must play some role.
To make it easier for you to enjoy again and again, we have provided a list of links to the "Ash Nazg" Challenge stories below. And, for this challenge, we have a very special web site for everyone to enjoy. If you do pick and click, please do be sure to let the authors know if you enjoyed their work.

A big THANK YOU to our authors who have proved to us once again the Ring of Power is indeed perilous .
A big THANK YOU to all the readers who are still, at this moment, reading through these unique and captivating stories, especially to those of you leaving comments. You are the best and we appreciate your support for these hard working writers!
Author: LadySunrope Title: To Serve the Prince - Part One –A Small Remembrance Challenge: Hobbit Smut “Ash Nazg” Challenge Word Count: 6948 Rating: NC 17 for darkfic, violent themes and realities of war. Pairings: Implied Frodo/Merry. Merry/Pippin. Later chapters Frodo/Sam Warnings: Not for the faint at heart. **Character death in this part.** Violent war (not gratuitous situations)
Summary: The First War of the Ring ended with Frodo claiming the Ring. How this happened is yet unknown. For eighteen years there has been resistance to that rule and finally victory for Faramir and his resistance fighters all over Middle Earth. Each of the hobbits has been irrevocably changed by what has happened. The rule of the Ringbearer and his Warden of the Shire might be over but there are lessons facing Pippin and Sam, lessons they thought they would never learn from those hobbits once loved and now hated and reviled.
A/N. Aspects of the movie verse are used in this story. This story is the first part of a larger series. The rest of the chapters will be posted in one months time in my livejournal. Thanks to ismenin for beta.
Author: Lbilover Title: The One Rings’s Diary Challenge: Hobbit Smut “Ash Nazg” Challenge Word Count: 3104 Rating: PG Pairings: Frodo/Sam Warnings: Slash, AU (duh) Summary: The One Ring keeps a diary A/N: Totally based on movie verse, and pretty much covers about the first half-hour of Fellowship, at that. With apologies to Helen Fielding whose ‘Bridget Jones’s Diary’ was the, um, inspiration for this madness. I sincerely hope she never reads this.
But not all is dark, as our hobbit_smut authors prove in their response to the "Ash Nazg" Challenge.
For this very special challenge, our authors were asked to write a story in which one of the characters in The Lord of the Rings claims the One Ring for his, or her, own and to show us what happens as a result. And, since this ishobbit_smut, at least one of our beloved hobbits must play some role.
